Technical cleanliness

Technical cleanliness plays a particularly important role in automotive, electronics, hydraulics and precision engineering manufacturing processes. Contamination on various parts, components and finished products – even in the size of a few micrometers – can cause significant operational problems, wear or failure in the equipment. MÜKI LABOR Kft.’s cleanliness tests are based on precise methods that can be used to determine the amount, size distribution and type of contaminants, and then the samples can be classified into a standard cleanliness class.

During the test, the samples are washed using a standard procedure or cleaned using ultrasonic technology, and the separated particles are then analyzed using a microscope. The data obtained is also suitable for monitoring production processes, process optimization, quality assurance. The goal in all cases is for the manufactured product to comply with automotive OEM regulations and international cleanliness requirements.

Cleanliness testing for contamination control of industrial and automotive components

The importance of cleanliness testing in industry

In modern industries, especially in the automotive industry, the presence of contaminants even in the size range of a few microns can lead to malfunctions. A tiny metal filing, glass fiber, plastic detachment or dust can even cause the failure of valves, bearings, lines or electronic modules. Cleanliness testing therefore:

– helps to identify critical contaminants during production,
– provides comparable results between different production stages,
– supports error detection and complaint management,
– reduces the reject rate and increases production reliability.

The results of the tests are crucial in the supply chain, as several automotive manufacturers (VW, Daimler, Volvo, etc.) impose strict cleanliness requirements on all supplied parts.

The cleanliness test process step by step

The test is a standardized series of procedures that ensure reproducibility and comparability:

Washing process

The contamination is removed from the sample using a special cleaning fluid, a specific pressure or an ultrasonic technique.

Particle separation and filtration

The separated contaminants are placed on a filter membrane, where further analysis takes place.

Microscopic examination

The size, type, quantity and morphology of the particles are determined using a high-resolution optical microscope.

Classification according to standard

The purity of the samples is categorized according to international standards, so that the results are suitable for development documentation, production approvals and supplier audits.

Standards used in cleanliness testing

The tests are always in accordance with the strict international standards accepted in the industry:

ISO 16232
ISO 16232
PV 3347
VDA 19.1

These standards define the washing procedure, particle analysis methodology, size categories and evaluation criteria, thus ensuring objective and reliable data for quality assurance.
